How to make Volovanes stuffed with prawns:
- Before making this recipe, the first step is to get all the ingredients ready.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and with a round cutter make medium circles. You can buy this type of dough ready at any supermarket or make it yourself following the puff pastry recipe.
- To shape the vol-au-vents, transpose a smaller cutter over the cut circles, in order to make a puff pastry edge. Paste these edges with egg on the puff pastry circles.
- Arrange the vol-au-vents in a refractory, prick the base with a fork to prevent them from puffing up during baking and paint the edges with egg. Bake at 180°C for 15 minutes.
- To make the stuffing, cut the prawns into small pieces and cook in a pan with butter for 2 minutes. Add the finely chopped garlic, sauté for 3 more minutes and season with salt and pepper.
- Add the cream and grated Dutch cheese. Cook for 2 minutes, rectify flavor with salt and pepper.
- Finally fill the vol-au-vents with the prawn sauce and enjoy. Prawn-stuffed vol-au-vents are an elegant and delicious appetizer, as are chicken vol-au-vents.
