Miser wet also known as yes Mir wet or miser watt is a traditional vegetarian lentil stew from Ethiopian cuisine of lentils with tomato, onion and an aromatic mixture of typical spices called barbered. Ingredients to make Vegetarian Lentil Stew:
- 2 cups of lentils (preferably red)
- 2 onions
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 2 cups of crushed tomato
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 1 splash of oil
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 small dried chili
- 1 pinch of fenugreek seeds
- 1 pinch of coriander seeds
- 1 pinch of cardamom seeds
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ginger powder
- 2 nails
- 3 black peppercorns
How to make Vegetarian Lentil Stew:
1.To prepare the barbered spice mix, heat a pan and add the fenugreek seeds, coriander, cardamom, cloves and black pepper. Toast until fragrant, 2-3 minutes.
2.Add the cinnamon and ginger powder, stir and grind them in a blender or grinder until they turn into powder.
3.Soak the lentils for 2 hours before preparation. Drain and reserve.
4.Heat the oil in a pot and fry the chopped onion for several minutes. Then add the minced garlic, fresh ginger, cumin, paprika and the mixture of spices that we have prepared. Stir and fry for 2 more minutes without stopping stirring.
5.Add the lentils and crushed tomato and cook for several more minutes at a time, adding the vegetable broth little by little and stirring. Check the point of salt and pepper and bring the broth to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the spiced vegetarian lentils until the liquid is almost completely reduced.
