Ingredients to make Sweet Porridge:

  • 100 grams of common wheat flour
  • 90 milliliters of light olive oil
  • 800 milliliters of skimmed milk
  • 180 grams of white sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of aniseed or matalahúva
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 piece of lemon rind

How to make Sweet Porridge:

  1. Put a saucepan to heat with the milk, the lemon peel and the cinnamon stick. Keep the preparation over medium heat until it begins to boil.
  2.  Watch that the milk does not overflow when boiling, but keep the heat like this for 4 minutes. Remove the saucepan when this time has passed, remove the lemon peel and cinnamon.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet and fry the bread pieces over medium-low heat, turning them over so that they are browned on all sides.
  4.  She tries to keep the pieces not too big. Place the homemade croutons on a plate lined with kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
  5. In the same oil used to fry the bread, add the anise grains, stir for a minute, strain the oil with a strainer and transfer the strained oil to a saucepan.

  13. Liquid sweetener or fructose can be used, but avoid cane or brown sugar to give the sweet porridge its characteristic whitish color.
  14. Let the preparation cool in the fridge for at least a couple of hours.
  15. When serving the sweet porridge, do not forget to place the pieces of fried bread and sprinkle powdered cinnamon or drop a few threads of cane syrup.
