Ingredients to make Sushi Rice:
- 2 cups of rice for sushi
- 1 cup of fruit vinegar
- 3 tablespoons of Sugar
- 1 unit of nori seaweed
How to make Sushi Rice:
- The first step to make the recipe is to prepare the ingredients for the sushi rice. If you prefer, instead of fruit vinegar you can use rice vinegar, you just have to keep in mind that the latter is more expensive.
- The first thing you should keep in mind is that sushi or Japanese rice is short-grain and acquires a glutinous consistency as soon as you start cooking it. So what we are going to do before cooking the rice is to put it in a colander.
- Wash the rice with plenty of cold water, moving constantly with your hand. Ideally, wash the sushi rice until the water runs completely clear, since it means that all the starch has been removed.
- In a pot add the fruit vinegar, the nori seaweed and the sugar. Ideally, this sushi rice dressing should be made with kombi seaweed, but I couldn’t find it and I opted for this alternative, the truth is that it turned out really well.
- Add the rice into a deep pot to start cooking it.
- Add two cups of water and cook the rice over low heat, we must take into account that when cooking this rice we have to add the same amount of water. You must cover the pot and first cook for three minutes on high heat, then lower the heat to a simmer and cook for another 13 minutes. Remove from the heat and let sit without the lid for ten minutes.
- Remove the sushi rice to a bowl and add the dressing made previously, it is important that you fan the rice so that it cools down and use a wooden spatula. Mix the ingredients well and, once the vinegar is added, cover our recipe with a damp cloth to prevent the rice from drying out.
- We can use this rice to make approximately 6 or 8 sushi rolls of 8 bites each.
- This is how sushi rice should look, we can also use this recipe to mix with sauces from Japanese preparations. Do not hesitate and accompany your homemade sushi with a delicious Japanese-style fried chicken.
