Salty cakes are a very practical way of incorporating different foods into our daily diet. In addition, with very few raw materials we can make a lunch or dinner to the delight of you and your guests, including children! The dough for this cake is very easy and quick to make and the result is great. If you are wondering how to make spinach pie, you will see that with the instructions that we show it is very easy.

Ingredients to make Spinach Pie:

  • 300 grams of flour
  • 100 cubic centimeters of olive oil
  • 125 cubic centimeters of water
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the filling:

  • 1 onion
  • 100 grams of cream cheese
  • 150 grams of cream cheese or mozzarella
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 package of spinach (100 g)

How to make Spinach Pie:

Place the flour and oil in a bowl and mix both ingredients little by little. In this way, you will begin to prepare the dough for the spinach pie. However, if you prefer to save a little time you can always buy it already made.

Gradually pour in the water and integrate it, kneading with your hands or a spatula until all the flour has been incorporated and a compact and manageable dough is created. Form a ball and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Trick: In this step you can enrich the dough with herbs or seeds.

Julienne the onion and sauté it in a pan over high heat with a little hot oil. You will need to cook it until it becomes transparent.

Add all the previously washed spinach and integrate it with the onion. Although at first it seems like a lot, you will see that it reduces in size as it cooks. In any case, you can always make the spinach pie by adding more or less of this vegetable.

Once the spinach is sautéed with the onions, add the cream cheese and mix well to integrate it completely. Then, turn off the heat, remove the pan and let the filling cool.

After the resting time of the dough for the spinach pie, stretch it on the table with the help of a rolling pin leaving about 3 mm thick.

Having the dough stretched, cover the greased mold with it, remove the excess dough and prick the base with a fork so that it does not inflate. Bake the dough for 5-8 minutes in the oven preheated to 180ºC.

Trick: We have used a mold of about 20 cm in diameter.

While you have the dough in the oven, add the eggs to the filling and mix well. Also add a little grated nutmeg to enhance the flavor of the spinach pie.

Remove the dough from the oven, pour the filling and add the cream cheese or mozzarella cut into cubes. Bake the spinach pie for 15-20 minutes keeping the same temperature. Some people make spinach pie by covering the surface with another sheet of dough.

Trick: You can also make the pie with spinach and goat cheese, cottage cheese, feta or ricotta.

Serve the baked spinach cheesecake cut into individual servings. As you have seen, although it is somewhat long, this recipe is not complicated, and if you buy the dough already made, the step by step will reduce a lot.
