Spinach recipe with light cream

Even if you prepare this light creamed spinach dish, you will see that it retains all its flavor, because low-calorie dishes do not have to be bland or boring! Ingredients to make Spinach with light cream:

  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 bag of fresh spinach, cleaned and chopped
  • 250 milliliters of skimmed milk (or vegetable without sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch or wheat flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 handful of grated low-fat cheese (optional)

How to make spinach in light cream:

Place the 2 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan, if possible non-stick, and heat it. Add the chopped onion and garlic and fry well until golden brown.

Tip: If you see that the sauce needs more liquid, add water instead of oil and continue poaching the vegetables.

Season the lightly creamed spinach with salt and pepper to taste and add a tablespoon of cornstarch or wheat flour. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes being careful not to burn.

Tip: If you are celiac, add the cornstarch and you will not have any problems because it is gluten-free.

Heat the skim milk if possible and add it to the pan. Stir well with a wooden spoon so that no lumps form until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes or so.

Add the fresh spinach to the skillet and cook, mixing with the rest of the ingredients, until the vegetables have reduced and all the flavors have been integrated.

Tip: If you wish, you can use fresh spinach in a bunch, but this way you save more time because they are already cleaned and cut in the bag.

Serve the light creamed spinach at the table and you can optionally add a little grated low-fat cheese on top but remember that doing so will add a lot of extra calories to the dish.
