Ingredients to make Sautéed Broccoli with Ham:
- 100 grams of Serrano ham in slices
- ½ kilogram of broccoli
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 onion
- 60 milliliters of brandy
- 1 splash of extra virgin olive oil
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of powdered aromatic herbs (thyme, rosemary, bay leaf, etc…)
- 1 handful of shelled walnuts
How to make Sautéed Broccoli with Ham:
- First of all, to prepare this sautéed broccoli with ham and walnuts we have to cut the stems of all the broccoli stems and wash them very well.
- Next, we cut the broccoli into smaller pieces to make it easier to cook later.
- Then we cut the Serrano ham into smaller strips. Likewise, we also peel and chop the onion and garlic.
- Tip: If you prefer, you can use a slice of Serrano ham and cut it into smaller cubes to make this broccoli with ham and walnuts, or even replace it with bacon or smoked bacon.
- In a casserole or skillet (non-stick if possible) add a good splash of olive oil and put the heat to medium-low.
- When the oil is hot, brown the ham strips a little and then remove them and reserve. Thus the broccoli with ham will have much more flavor due to the oil flavored with it.
- In that same oil, add the chopped onion and garlic and begin to poach them with a pinch of salt.
- Tip: It is not necessary to add a lot of salt because Serrano ham is already very salty.
- When the onion and garlic begin to brown, add the chopped broccoli, a pinch of salt, ground black pepper and the aromatic herbs to our liking.
- Stir well, cover the pan and let everything cook for about 5 minutes, stirring from time to time.
- Then we add the brandy and let the alcohol evaporate, stirring for another 2 minutes.
- This step is optional so you can either skip the alcohol in this Sautéed Broccoli with Garlic and Ham recipe or substitute brandy for brandy, white wine or any other type of cooking wine.
- Finally, we add the sautéed ham strips and the chopped peeled walnuts and sauté everything together for one more minute so that the flavors are integrated.
- Trick: You can use other types of nuts if you want to make the broccoli with Serrano ham instead of nuts
- And now we can taste this delicious recipe for sautéed broccoli with ham and walnuts! Good appetite.
