Ingredients to make Empanadas de sardines:

Dough:

  • 500 gr. Of flour
  • 5 deciliters of olive oil
  • 5 deciliters of milk

Filling:

  • 1 kilo of sardines
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 sprigs of parsley
  • 5 deciliters of olive oil
  • Salt and
  • Pepper
  • Termination:
  • 1 beaten egg

How to make Sardine Empanadas:

Mix the flour in a large container with the oil, milk and a little salt. When these ingredients have been combined, move to a table dusted with flour and work until the dough has consistency. Pick up the dough with a clean kitchen towel and put it in the fridge for 30 minutes.

After this time, remove the dough and divide it into two halves, one a little larger than the other. Put flour on the table, roll out the largest part of the dough, leaving it one centimeter thick. Grease the oven mold with a little oil and place this part of the dough in it.

Gut and remove the heads from the sardines, wash them, drain them and season them with salt. Spread them over the dough. Peel and cut the onion into thin rings and spread it over the sardines. Sprinkle with hand-chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle with oil. Cover with the other part of the dough, previously spread with a rolling pin, and make a bead around it joining the two layers of dough. Brush the corners and sides with a beaten egg. Make a hole in the center of the dough. Brush the entire surface with beaten egg and bake in a preheated oven at 220°C. After 5 minutes lower the temperature to 200° C and keep in the oven for another 30 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
