Saganaki Recipe

Saganaki or Greek fried cheese is served as an appetizer or entree, a traditional dish of Greek cuisine that is prepared in a short time, it is very simple to make. A crunchy delight on the outside and tender on the inside. In addition, to give the dish an acid touch, a dash of lemon juice is added to taste. It can also be accompanied with a pinch of honey, flax seeds, among other ingredients.

Ingredients to make Saganaki:

  • 200 grams of feta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 50 grams of breadcrumbs
  • 1 glass of sunflower or mild olive oil
  • 1 lemon

How to make saganaki:

To prepare the saganaki recipe, you must first cut the cheese into pieces or strips, you can also make it whole. Remove the water from the cheese and dry it well with kitchen paper to remove excess moisture. In a plate place the breadcrumbs and in another the egg to beat, add a little salt. You shouldn’t add too much salt, as feta is salty.

Pass the pieces of cheese first through the egg and second through the breadcrumbs. If you like it with a harder crust, pass the cheese through the egg and breadcrumbs again, doing it twice will leave you with a good crust.

Place a high skillet to heat with a glass of sunflower oil, seeds or mild olive oil over medium heat. When it is hot, introduce the cheese, turning it on all sides so that it is well fried throughout. It should be nicely browned on the outside and tender on the inside. As you remove it, add it to a plate with a sheet of kitchen paper to absorb the excess oil.

Once you have all the pieces, serve immediately hot so that it is very tender inside.  Accompany with lemon and at mealtime add a splash.
