Rice with beans or beans is one of the most beloved and widespread dishes in Latin America, especially in Caribbean countries like Cuba. There are many versions of this preparation, as well as many species of beans with which you can accompany rice. Beans receive this name in countries like Argentina and Chile, where it is very common to enjoy them. In this case, we are going to prepare rice with black beans.
Ingredients to make Rice with Beans:
- 1 cup of rice
- 2 cups of water (480 milliliters)
- 2 cups of black beans
- 1 large onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- chili powder to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
- coriander to taste
- oregano to taste
- 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 sprigs of thyme
- 1 red bell pepper
How to make Rice with Beans:
- Before making your rice with beans, leave the beans soaking in water the night before.
- Cook the beans by submerging them in water in a pot. Add a clove of minced garlic and half of the minced onion and bell pepper. Season with salt and coriander. Let them cook until soft.
- Tip: If the water is drying up and the beans are still hard, you can add more water.
- Cook the seasoned rice with salt. You can add peppers, onion or grated carrot.
- Cut the rest of the onion and garlic and fry them in a pan with olive oil.
- Add the cooked rice and the cooked beans. Stir with the rest of the ingredients and add the bay leaf, chili powder, oregano, thyme and vinegar.
- Cover the pan and cook the rice with beans for about 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!

- Beans with rice can be eaten alone or accompanied with other ingredients. For example, you can add bits of bacon or chorizo to the preparation (warning: they are great).
