On this occasion, we have opted to make a recipe for rice with squid, very easy and very tasty due to the ingredients it contains. Likewise, we share some tricks and recommendations to enhance the flavor of the dish.
Ingredients to make Rice with baby squid:
- 300 grams of bomba rice
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 small green bell pepper
- 5 strands of saffron threads or dye
- 400 grams of baby squid
- 900 milliliters of fish broth or water
- 125 grams of crushed tomato or tomato sauce
- 1 splash of oil
- 1 pinch of salt
How to make Rice with baby squid:
- Chop the pepper and the garlic. Put a paella pan on the fire and add the vegetables to let them sauté until they begin to color. Then, add the crushed tomato and let the sauce cook for 3-4 minutes. All this on medium heat.
- Clean the baby squid and cut them into pieces.
- Add the baby squid to the sauce and cook everything together for 5 more minutes. On the other hand, heat the broth or water separately.
- Add the rice and mix it well with the sofrito so that it takes all the flavor. Sauté it for a couple of minutes.
- Pour the hot fish broth and the saffron threads or the dye and a little salt. Stir lightly to evenly distribute the rice with baby squid and raise the heat. When it starts to boil, reduce to medium heat and let everything cook for 15-18 minutes, depending on the type of rice used.
- When it’s ready, turn off the heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes before serving. How to make broth rice with baby squid
- The rice with baby squid and vegetables that we have learned to prepare is sweet but not soupy. If you prefer to make a broth rice, all you have to do is add 100-150 ml more of broth or water. The cooking time is the same, since in this way the rice is cooked without consuming all the liquid.
- Rice with baby squid, prawns and clams
- Regardless of whether you want to make it soupier or not, you can add other ingredients to the rice with squid, such as shrimp and clams. To do this, we recommend following these steps:
- Before preparing the sauce, peel the prawns and cook the heads and shells in a saucepan with water. Strain and reserve the broth obtained.
- Prepare the sofrito and add the rice following the instructions in the recipe.
- Instead of using 900 ml of fish broth, use the broth from cooking shrimp shells. If you do not reach 900 ml, then add fish broth.
