Winter, Boiled, Traditional recipe from France
Ingredients to make onion soup without bread:
- 4 onions
- 60 grams of butter
- 100 milliliters of white wine
- 1500 milliliters of water (6¼ cups)
- 1 teaspoon of meat concentrate (Bovril)
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of black pepper
- 1 pinch of nutmeg
How to make onion soup without bread:
- We start by peeling the onions and julienne those (strips). In a frying pan, put the butter and bring it to the fire. When the butter is melted, add the onion, stir well and cook covered over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- When the onion begins to soften, add the tablespoon of meat concentrate and the white wine. Stir well and cook over low heat until very tender.
- Tip: You can remove the meat concentrate and add homemade broth if you prefer.
- Pour the contents of the pan into a saucepan, add the water and season with salt, black pepper and nutmeg, cover and let the simple onion soup cook for at least an hour over medium-low heat so that the vegetable sweats well.
- All that remains is to serve this onion soup without cheese or bread and enjoy a delicious and cheap warm dish.
