Recipe for Arepas stuffed with ground beef with mayonnaise

Homemade arepas are one of the pillars of Venezuelan gastronomy, and in addition to being easy to prepare, their versatility allows us to fill them with endless elaborations.  Thus, we can opt for melted cheese, shredded meat, vegetables, chicken, and a long etcetera.

On this occasion, we will learn to cook some delicious Venezuelan arepas with ground beef and other ingredients that we detail below.

Ingredients to make Arepas stuffed with ground beef with mayonnaise:

  • 200 grams of flour
  • 1 pinch of salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound bologna mortadella
  • 3 big-headed onions (pearl)
  • 3 Tomatoes
  • Mayonnaise
  • 3 cups of water (720 milliliters)

How to make Arepas stuffed with ground beef with mayonnaise:

We start the recipe by preparing the dough for the Venezuelan arepas. To do this, in a plastic container add 3 cups of water, salt to taste and a tablespoon of oil, and mix. Then, we add the flour and, at the same time, we mix until we obtain a not very dry dough; let it rest for 3 minutes so that it reaches the point of softness similar to that of plasticine (if it was very hard, add a little water until it reaches that point or consistency). And so we get the dough and we give it the shape of homemade arepas and then fry them.

For the filling of the Venezuelan arepas, we make a carne seco, that is, the meat is cooked with a stew made from half the tomato and onion, finely chopped. Separately, cut the mortadella into squares and, in the same way, the remaining tomato and onion.

Then, we mix both preparations in a container with mayonnaise and salt to taste. Once this is done, we open the already fried arepas and fill them trying to incorporate the same amount of meat to all of them. Clever! Now we can enjoy our delicious Venezuelan ground beef arepas with mayonnaise.
