This homemade pumpkin hummus is perfect for an original starter at a dinner with friends.  It is light and with a balanced flavor, ideal to accompany with a good red wine. Follow the instructions and you will see that it is very easy and quick to prepare.

Ingredients to make Pumpkin Hummus:

  • 400 grams of Pumpkin
  • 200 grams of Chickpeas
  • ½ Lemon
  • 1 splash of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of sweet paprika
  • 1 tablespoon of olives

How to make Pumpkin Hummus:

We prepare the ingredients for this pumpkin cream, perfect for making canapés with toasted bread. To speed up the times, we have bought the chickpeas already cooked. The olives are used to decorate, you can replace them with capers or another ingredient. To make the pumpkin and chickpea hummus, we first cook the pumpkin. You can make it baked, steamed or boiled, which is how I did it: I chopped it to shorten times, and I had it in boiling water for about 15 minutes. Prick with a fork to check doneness.

After draining the pumpkin, pour it into the blender glass together with the canned chickpeas, the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and a splash of extra virgin olive oil. We liquefy it so that it is a very fine pumpkin cream.

If necessary, add a little more oil or water -the homemade hummus will be lighter-, to find the desired texture.

Serve the chickpea and pumpkin hummus in a bowl, add a splash of extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle a little sweet paprika or paprika. You can decorate the pumpkin hummus with some olives or some capers. Accompany it with bread and you’ll see what a delicious canapés!
