Potato and cabbage Trinxat recipe

Have you heard of the Catalan trinxat ? It is a typical Catalan recipe from the Cerdanya area. This dish made from cabbage and potatoes, of humble origin, is well known in Catalan cuisine and a great accompaniment to grilled meat and fish. Cabbage, also known as cabbage, is a vegetable that has little fat and provides protein, vitamin C and folic acid to our diet.

Ingredients to make Potato and cabbage Trinxat:

  • 400 grams of Cabbage
  • 4 units of Potato
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 pinch of salt

How to make potato and cabbage Trinxat:

  1. We gather all the ingredients to make the potato and cabbage trinxat.
  2. Trinxat is traditionally cooked with a couple of garlic, but we have decided not to include them in the recipe.
  3. We remove the outer leaves of the cabbage or cabbage and cut it into long strips.
  4. Peel the potatoes and cut them into medium wedges.
  5. Remember that potatoes provide us with a large amount of energy and are rich in fiber.
  6. Cook the potatoes and cabbage in a pot with plenty of boiling water and a little salt.
  7. Let cook for approximately 20-25 minutes (depends on the thickness of the potatoes).
  8. The cabbage must be made into a paste, almost undone, in order to prepare the Catalan trinxat.
  9. Mash the potatoes and cabbage with the help of a fork. Season with salt and add a little ground black pepper.
  10. On the other hand, we sauté the bacon in a pan until it is golden.
  11. If you decide to use garlic for this Catalan trinxat, now is the time to add it: cut it into slices and sauté it with the bacon.
