Ingredients to make Onion Soup with Bread and Cheese:

  • 1 liter of onion broth
  • 2 units of purple onions
  • 2 tablespoons of Butter
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 glasses of Marsala wine
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of freshly ground pepper
  • 1 handful of grated Parmesan
  • 2 slices of toasted seed bread

How to make Onion Soup with Bread and Cheese:

  • Take a frying pan and heat the butter with the oil. Separately, cut the onion into julienne strips and sauté for 3-4 minutes over medium heat when the oil is hot and the butter is melted.
  • Add a pinch of salt, cover the pan and let the purple onion cook for 2-3 more minutes.
  • After the time, we add the Marsala wine and let it cook for 5 more minutes to reduce.
  • Turn the onion over to prevent it from sticking to the pan and to ensure that it soaks up the aroma of the wine.
  • Let’s pour the onion broth, which can be industrial or homemade.
  • Cook the onion soup for 15 minutes over medium heat, or until we see that the onion is very tender. Meanwhile, toast the slices of bread and, when the soup is ready, place them inside and sprinkle the Parmesan cheese and freshly ground pepper. Clever! More flavorful recipes on my blog, Saber en Cristal.
