Nopal ceviche recipe

• 5 medium nopales

• 5 lemons

• 1 cup of water (240 milliliters)

• 1 pinch of salt to taste

How to make nopal ceviche:

Begin the recipe by chopping the nopales into small squares, then transfer them to a pot with a cup of water, a pinch of salt and cook for 8-10 minutes or until they have changed color and are soft. Then, remove the pot from the heat and let the nopales cool completely in a colander to remove the water and excess nopal slime.

Chop the onion and Serrano pepper into small squares. The amount of chili is optional, so if you want more heat, chop more Serrano pepper.

Tip: you can substitute the white onion for red onion if you wish.

Remove the seeds from the tomato and chop it in the same way, that is, in small squares. Then finely chop the cilantro. Squeeze the juice from the lemons and reserve it to add it at the end. Add the chopped ingredients to a large bowl, add the cooked nopales and mix everything very well (remember not to add the lemon juice yet). Add the fish and mix again. Pour the lemon juice, a little salt and mix everything until integrated. The fish is usually cooked very quickly with the lemon, so about 4 minutes of rest before serving will suffice.
