Meat and corn tart recipe

In this elaboration we teach you how to prepare an original meat and corn cake. You should know that it is like eating a classic Buenos Aires empanada, however, in a much simpler format to prepare, since you do not have to close one by one and make corn tarts, but you only have to use a cake dough. In addition, the corn adds a different texture and more fiber, a very healthy preparation. Also, at the end of the recipe we will provide you with some more ideas to make your cake. Remember that you can freeze it in portions once cooked and you will have it ready to eat for about 3 months.

Ingredients to make meat and corn pie:

• 1 pie crust

• 500 grams of minced meat

• 1 large onion

• ¼ bell pepper

• ½ corn

• 1 green onion

• 25 cubic centimeters of red wine

• 1 teaspoon paprika

• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

• 1 bay leaf

• 1 pinch of ground chili

• 1 teaspoon cumin

• 1 egg

How to make meat and corn pie:

To start with the meat and corn cake recipe, you must first peel and chop the onion. Next, sauté it in a pan over high heat with 1 tablespoon of oil and do not move it until it is transparent. When it is transparent, stir, lower the heat to medium and add 1 tablespoon of hot water. When it evaporates, repeat the process.

While you sauté the onion, wash and chop the bell pepper to add it when you have finished the previous step. If necessary, add another tablespoon of hot water and repeat as many times as you want, keeping in mind that the more times you do it, the sweeter and more cooked the vegetable will be. In a pot with plenty of water to cover it, cook the corn for about 10 minutes or until it changes its color to bright yellow. When you have the onion and bell pepper cooked, raise the heat to the maximum and place the onion on the sides of the pan to add half of the minced meat in the center with a new tablespoon of oil. Don’t move it until it starts to change its color. Stir with the vegetables.

Remove the sauté and reserve it while you sauté the other half of the meat. Do not move it until the liquid begins to evaporate and changes color, so it will brown and take on flavor. Before removing it from the pan, add the red wine and reserve until the alcohol evaporates.

Season the meat with the seasonings that you like the most. In this case, we have used paprika, ground chili, smoked paprika and cumin. The same ingredients that are used in the original recipe for meat empanadas, but you can vary it to your liking. Also add the green washed and chopped.

Add the corn kernels to the stuffing that you have previously cooked, stir and set aside until cool. Taste it to confirm that it is rich. Once cold, add the egg and prepare the mold for your meat and corn pie, greasing it and covering it with the dough. Fill the cake with the meat, vegetables and corn. Next, cook it in the oven at 200ºC, approximately 30 minutes or until the dough is golden. Now you can serve your delicious meat and corn pie!

Other ingredients for your corn cake with meat

In addition to the condiments mentioned, classics of the Argentine meat empanada, you can include hydrated raisins, sliced olives and chopped hard-boiled egg. However, if you want to make a different recipe, but also very rich, you can add half a cup of white sauce for a more unctuous and creamy preparation. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Mix half a cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of cornstarch.

2. Heat it in the microwave for about 1 minute.

3. Stir and heat for another 30 seconds until thick.

4. Add it to the filling along with the meat, vegetables and corn.
