Makis recipe with melon and ham

Ingredients to make Makis of melon with ham:

  • 1 slice of melon
  • 100 grams of rice for sushi
  • 4 slices of serrano ham
  • 1 splash of vinegar
  • 1 pinch of salt

How to make Makis of melon with ham:

  1. To prepare the melon and ham makis, we must gather all the ingredients.
  2. Prepare the sushi rice according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you have any doubts, you can consult the sushi rice recipe.
  3. Tip: If you don’t have sushi rice, you can cook round rice. When it is cooked, add a mixture of white vinegar and sugar in equal parts.
  4. Cut the melon into sticks. In this original Spanish recipe, melon will replace fish in our makis.
  5. On a mat or towel we place plastic wrap and the serrano ham.
  6. Tip: In my case, since I don’t have a mat to roll sushi, I have used a clean towel under the plastic wrap.
  7. To continue with our melon and ham makis, we put a layer of rice on the ham without completely covering the ends. The ham replaces the nori seaweed, typical in Japanese makis.
  8. Place the melon sticks at one end of the rice layer.
  9. Roll up the melon and ham makis with a mat or towel. It is important to press slightly while you roll the makis.
  10. Finally, we cut the melon and ham makis with the help of a sharp knife and serve.
