Tuna dumplings are very popular. The ones that we will show you are made with a very soft wheat flour dough and are filled with a mixture of tuna, tomato and onion that can also include a hard-boiled egg. These empanadillas are usually fried but we will make them in the oven since they are healthier that way.
Ingredients to make homemade tuna dumplings:
- Dough
- 250 grams of wheat flour
- 50 milliliters of sunflower oil
- 100 milliliters of water
- 1 pinch of salt
- Filling
- 1 can of canned tuna
- 1 unit of Tomato
- 1 unit of Onion
- 30 milliliters of sunflower oil
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of pepper
- 1 lemon unit
- 1 unit of Egg
How to make homemade tuna dumplings:.
- Before making these homemade dumplings, the first step is to get all the ingredients ready.
- In a bowl mix the sifted flour, the pinch of salt, the oil and the water. Knead for 15 minutes, until you get a soft and elastic dough, set aside.
- For the filling, in a frying pan with oil, fry the onion cut into small cubes for 1 minute. Then, add the tomato without skin and without seeds finely cut to cook for 5 more minutes until the tomato releases its juices.
- Turn off the heat, add the can of tuna and a few drops of lemon, mix everything very well.
- Stretch the dough on a floured surface with a 1 cm width and cut it into circles with the help of a cutter.
- Fill the circles with the tuna mixture and close the empanadas by sprinkling the egg around them so that they stick easily.
- Brush the dumplings with beaten egg and arrange them on a floured surface. Bake at 170º C. for 25 minutes.
- Serve the homemade tuna dumplings and enjoy. This dish is perfect to serve as an appetizer or a tapa and you can also make them with other fillings such as chicken and mushrooms or sweets with fruit.
