To give the characteristic color to these homemade tofu sausages that I share with we are going to use beets since their juice is widely used as a red dye in the kitchen. So, with this recipe for vegetarian tofu sausages, you will be able to make this preparation to have them on hand at home whenever you want without the need to buy them already made, and they are also much tastier!
Ingredients to make Homemade Tofu Sausages:
- 1 package of block tofu (250-300 grams)
- 6 tablespoons of wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons of brewer’s yeast
- 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
- 12 cups of water
- ⅓ beets or beets
How to make Homemade Tofu Sausages:
- Cut the tofu and beetroot into small cubes.
- Put the tofu and beetroot in a blender or a food processor and blend them, adding the water little by little until a homogeneous mass without lumps of intense pink color is formed.
- Add the salt, garlic, onion powder, brewer’s yeast, flour, cornstarch, and mustard. Mix well first with a spoon and then continue to blend in the blender until all the ingredients for the Homemade Vegetarian Tofu Sausages are well incorporated. Let the dough chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes.
- Transfer the tofu sausage dough to a pastry bag, and cut the tip of the bag depending on the thickness of the sausages you want to obtain.
- Tip: It is best to make a hole that is not too big.
- Cut rectangular sheets of cling film about 6 inches wide. On one of the edges of each sheet lengthwise, place a thick line of tofu dough 10-15 centimeters long, carefully squeezing the piping bag.
- Roll up the film carefully and close the edges like a candy making sure that no filling comes out, thus forming the tofu sausages. The dough yields about 8 or 10 units.
- Tip: If some bubbles appear on the surface of the sausages, prick them with a needle.
- Heat a pot with plenty of water. When the water starts to boil, put the homemade vegan sausages in the pot. When the water returns to a boil, let the sausages cook for 40 minutes with the lid of the pot ajar.
- After the cooking time, turn off the heat and let the vegetarian tofu sausages cool down in the pot. Then place them in a container and store them in the fridge for several hours to further harden.
- Now the homemade tofu sausages are ready to be cooked or used in other preparations. Do not forget to remove the transparent film before cooking them.
