Homemade granola recipe without sugar

Granola is a perfect food for a healthy breakfast, since it provides a lot of energy and nutrients. It is a crunchy mixture of cereals with nuts, seeds, dehydrated fruit, etc. served with yogurt, milk or as a smoothie bowl topping.

Actually, the ingredients that you can add to this sugar-free homemade granola recipe that I share are totally to your taste, so you can easily modify it.

Traditionally, homemade vegan granola is cooked in the oven and when toasted it acquires a nice crunchy touch. Although there are many commercial options, there is nothing better than preparing it at home with healthy ingredients and to your liking. In addition, it is a homemade granola recipe for diabetics as well since the agave syrup in the ingredients is optional but, even adding it, it has a much lower glycemic index than common refined sugar or honey.

This sugar-free homemade granola that I explain step by step is a food that is preserved quite well in a closed jar, so do not hesitate to increase the amounts indicated in the recipe if you want to prepare much more. Try it and tell me your opinion!

Ingredients to make homemade granola without sugar:

  • 2 cups of oat flakes
  • 5 tablespoons of walnuts
  • 5 tablespoons of raisins
  • 5 tablespoons raw peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons of flax seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of sunflower seeds
  • 2 tablespoons of hemp seeds
  • 40 ml agave syrup (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted sunflower or coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

How to make Homemade Sugar Free Granola:

  1. Chop the walnuts and peanuts in the blender or simply chop them with a knife.
  2. In a bowl, mix the oat flakes with the walnuts, peanuts, raisins, and hemp, sunflower and flax seeds. Add the cinnamon and salt.
  3. Tip: As an option you can add other nuts to this homemade vegan granola, I have tried adding dried apricots, dates, dried cranberries, hazelnuts, almonds, macadamia nuts, etc. All options are delicious!
  4. Add the oil and a good splash of agave syrup and mix the homemade granola without sugar with your hands until all the ingredients are integrated.
  5. Tip: You cannot add the agave syrup or replace it with a sweetener or natural sweetener.
  6. Cover a baking tray with parchment paper and pour the homemade vegan granola on top, spreading it evenly across the bottom of the tray with a spoon.
  7. Preheat the oven to 160 degrees and bake the homemade granola for diabetics for 20-30 minutes, stirring from time to time so that it does not burn. When the granola is toasted, remove the tray from the oven and let it cool.
  8. Keep the homemade vegan granola in a well-closed jar or Tupperware so that it lasts longer in your pantry
  9. Serve homemade sugar-free granola with yogurt, unsweetened almond milk, or as a topping for a banana smoothie bowl, for example
