Homemade Coconut Milk

Ingredients to make homemade coconut milk:

  1. 200 grams of grated coconut (2 cups)
  2. 200 milliliters of water

How to make homemade coconut milk:

  • Split the coconut forcefully with the help of a hammer, reserve the water that is in the center and, with a blunt knife, remove all the pulp. Grate the meat of the coconut and add it to the blender with the hot water.
  • If you don’t have fresh coconut, you can use the dried grated coconut that they sell in supermarkets. To make coconut milk with dried shredded coconut, just mix the coconut with hot water without bringing it to a boil and stir for a few minutes so that it hydrates well. Continue with the other steps.
  • Tip: You can drink the coconut water, as it is a very refreshing and hydrating drink.
  • Blend for approximately 5 minutes, or until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
  • Strain the homemade coconut milk, use a spoon to squeeze it very well. If desired, what remains of the coconut can be blended again with more water, although a less concentrated milk would be obtained.
  • It is time to serve and use homemade coconut milk with shredded coconut in a delicious recipe, such as coconut rice or fish in coconut milk and curry.
