Ingredients to make Homemade Broth:

  • 500 grams of Bones, a piece of meat or poultry
  • 2 large onions chopped
  • 2 Carrots peeled and sliced
  • 1 Leek cut into slices
  • 1 sliced ​​celery stalk
  • 1 turnip peeled and chopped
  • 1 bunch of herbs
  • 1 pinch of pepper
  • 1 pinch of salt

How to make homemade broth:

  1. Take a large pot and add the bones and vegetables. Then cover the ingredients with cold water. For a light broth, only beef or veal bones are used. Add the desired herbs or spices, salt and pepper to taste.
  2. Cover the pot and let the broth simmer for 3 hours, skimming the foam from time to time.
  3. When it’s ready, rectify flavor, strain it and let it cool. Once cold, you can keep it in the fridge for 2 days. If you want to keep it longer, it is best to freeze it.
  4. Before using the homemade broth to make a soup, or the recipe you want, it is advisable to degrease the surface and strain it again.
  5. And if you want a darker broth, you must first roast the bones in the oven at 230ºC. Then, fry the vegetables in a tablespoon of oil until golden brown and cook them together with the toasted bones, cold water and spices following the previous procedure.
