Ingredients to make Caldo santo:

  • 2 cans of coconut milk
  • 3 tablespoons of achiote in grain (it can be achiote paste two tablespoons)
  • 4 chopped sweet peppers
  • 1 or 2 bell peppers, chopped
  • 2 sachets of seasoning with color (sazón)
  • 2 lbs. sweet potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 1 pound yautia, peeled and chopped
  • 1 lb. green bananas, peeled and chopped
  • 2 green bananas, peeled and chopped
  • 4 lbs. fried fish
  • salt to taste

How to make Holy Broth:

  1. In a deep pot, heat the coconut milk. Separately, in a mortar, place the achiote seeds and crush them until they turn yellow. If you use pasta then melt it.
  2. Add the achiote, seasoning, vegetables, greens and salt to the hot coconut milk, bring to a boil and almost when the vegetables are soft, add the fried fish.
  3. Let boil until vegetables soften. Serve alone or with white rice.
