Ingredients to make Rolled Ham and Cheese with Homemade Dough:

  • 30 grams of fresh yeast
  • 500 grams of wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1 cup of warm milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 50 grams of butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • 250 grams of cooked ham
  • 250 grams of mozzarella cheese
  • Oil

How to make Rolled Ham and Cheese with Homemade Dough:

We start by making the wheat flour dough. To do this, place the yeast, two tablespoons of flour, sugar and a cup of milk in a bowl. Mix and let stand 10 minutes. On the other hand, we put the rest of the flour and salt in another bowl, mix and make a hole in the center, where we will add the butter at room temperature along with the eggs and yeast. Mix everything from the center as the rest of the milk is incorporated little by little, until it forms a soft dough.

We leave this dough on the counter and knead until it is smooth and homogeneous. Make a ball and leave to rise in an oiled bowl, covered with plastic wrap, until doubled in volume. After this time, we proceed to cut the slices of ham and cheese to make our stuffed bread rolls.

On the other hand, remove the dough from the bowl and flatten it with your hands to degas. We stretch until we obtain a rectangular sheet 35 cm long by 20 wide. When we have it, we place pieces of ham and cheese and roll up.

To finish assembling our ham and cheese rolls, we cut them into small pieces, as seen in the photo, and place them on a previously greased baking tray. Cover with plastic wrap and leave at rest until it increases in volume again. When you have it, paint them all with beaten egg and cook in the oven for about 30 minutes or until you see that they turn golden and crispy. The cooking temperature may vary depending on the oven, but in principle an average temperature of 160-180ºC will suffice. When the savory bites are ready, all you have to do is serve and enjoy. This type of ham and cheese roll can be made with sliced bread or with pionono, a very thin type of sponge cake, widely used in Argentine cuisine.
