This ham and cheese pizza calzone, which also has fresh tomato and basil, is a very recurring dish at home, as it is liked by both adults and children. Learn how to prepare it following the instructions and surprise with a quick and easy pizza.

Ingredients to make Ham and Cheese Calzone:

  1. 1 sheet of pizza dough
  2. 4 slices of cooked ham
  3. 3 slices of Havarti cheese
  4. 2 slices of Mahon cheese
  5. ½ can of tomato sauce
  6. 1 tomato
  7. 3 basil leaves
  8. 1 splash of extra virgin olive oil
  9. 1 pinch of salt
  10. 1 pinch of oregano

How to make Ham and Cheese Calzone:

  • Here we have the ingredients for this easy Italian calzone. You can make the pizza dough yourself by following this recipe, or opt for ready-made pizza dough. I am a cheese maker, so I have chosen two strong flavored cheeses (Havarti and Mahoney), but this is totally optional, you can simply put mozzarella cheese.
  • Hack: Preheat the oven to 190 degrees, with heat up and down.
  • The first step to make the homemade calzone is to fry the tomato sauce, in a pan with just a trickle of oil. We will take the opportunity to add salt and oregano.
  • Next, with the pizza dough already spread out on the oven tray lined with baking paper, we will spread the tomato sauce all over the surface. The Italian calzone is a pizza folded in on it, so the ingredients are distributed only on one half. But to make it look juicy, I always recommend putting tomato sauce all over the surface. Next we will place the cooked ham, cut into strips; in this case, only in one half.
  • It is time to add the cheeses, also chopped. Remember that you can use the type of cheese that you like the most.
  • In the last layer, although it is totally optional, I add some slices of fresh tomato, in addition to the chopped basil leaves. It gives an extra flavor to this easy calzone.
  • Now we can close the calzone, folding the pizza on itself. With our fingers, we join the two halves to prevent the filling from coming out of the calzone during cooking. Above, you can paint with a little oil.
  • Bake the ham and cheese calzone, at a temperature of 190 degrees, between 10 and 18 minutes, always depending on the oven. We have to take it out when we see that it looks like this, already golden.
