German Apple Pie Recipe

German apple pie is one of the typical German desserts. It consists of making a German apple pie with a very special accompaniment: the strudel or streusel, which can be the most traditional with flour and butter or you can make an apple streusel, which is also very tasty and to which we recommend adding a pinch of cinnamon to give the final touch.

Today in this article we present you the simplest and fastest version of German apple pie. We have not added the cinnamon that is so popular in Germany, but if you like it, do not hesitate to add it to the dessert. If you want an even more express version, you can use broken dough as if it were a quiche.

How to make German Apple Pie:

  • We begin the step by step of this German apple pie recipe by listing and presenting the ingredients needed to make it.
  • First we make the streusel. In a bowl we pour the flour, butter and sugar, and mix them with our hands until we obtain a paste with a consistency similar to wet sand. We reserve it in the refrigerator covered with transparent film while we make the dough for the German apple pie.
  • For the apple pie dough, first make a paste with the butter and sugar.
  • Next, we add the rest of the ingredients. We knead the apple pie dough well so that it is smooth for us. It is best to start in the bowl and then work it on a cold, smooth and lightly floured surface. Roll the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
  • While they rest at room temperature, we peel the apple and cut it into wedges or thin portions. If you want to give it a texture like a potato omelette, dice the apple. We are looking for a roasted apple dough so we chop it very fine.
  • We spread a little butter in the mold to facilitate its subsequent removal from the mold and we began to assemble the German apple pie: first one of the dough bases. We distribute it well along the bottom of the mold and leave a vero so that it looks like a bowl. On this hole we add half of the apple and cover it with the remaining dough, which we treat the same way.
  • Finally we added the rest of the apple and on top of it, the streusel that we had in the fridge. Put the German apple pie in the oven preheated to 180 degrees Celsius and bake for 45 minutes, controlling the cooking point after half an hour (every oven is different).
  • We already have the German apple pie. We wait a few minutes for it to cool and unmold more easily (if you can, because we have already eaten part of the streusel). We present and enjoy.
