Ingredients to make Fried Tofu with Soy Sauce:

  • 250 grams of tofu
  • ½ cup sparkling or tonic water
  • ¼ cup of flour (35 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons of brewer’s yeast
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 splash of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of oil
  • 3 tablespoons of sunflower seeds
  • ½ cup of soy sauce for the sauce
  • 1 leek
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch

How to make Fried Tofu with Soy Sauce:

1 Wrap the block of tofu in a large amount of kitchen paper and let it rest by putting some weight on top to remove excess liquid.

2 Cut the tofu into triangles or cubes so you can coat it later.

3 Prepare the batter. To do this, in a large bowl mix the sparkling water, the flour, a splash of soy sauce, the brewer’s yeast and the garlic powder. Use the amount of flour necessary for the batter to be thick and creamy.

4 Heat a frying pan with oil. Pass the pieces of tofu in the batter and fry them in the pan on both sides until golden brown.

5 Next, cover the pieces of fried tofu with sunflower seeds on one side, place them on a baking tray and bake them for 15 minutes at 180 degrees.

6 Meanwhile, prepare the sauce. Cut the leak into fine rings and mince the garlic, heat a saucepan with a teaspoon of sesame oil and fry the leek together with the ginger powder and the garlic.

7 Add the soy sauce and heat it in the saucepan. When hot, add the cornstarch diluted in a small amount of water or soy sauce and continue cooking the sauce, stirring often to thicken.

8 Take the triangles of tofu out of the oven and serve them with the sauce. If you serve it as a starter, you can also prepare vegan sausage to complete the menu.
