Egg Arepa Recipe

Ingredients to make Egg Arepa:

  • A teaspoon of salt.
  • Half teaspoon of sugar.
  • Ground beef (optional)

How to make Egg Arepa:

Put the flour in a bowl along with the salt and sugar. Gradually add the water until a very soft manageable dough forms.

When the dough is ready, the arepas should be formed, for that, they are made into little balls a little bigger than a golf ball, and finally they are crushed until they are half a centimeter thick tortillas. Separately, enough vegetable oil is heated in a cauldron for the arepas to swim in it.

If the dough turned out well… what happens is that the arepas inflate a little, leaving a space inside them, where the raw egg (and meat…) will be placed. If you want it) the egg is introduced by making a hole in the arepa by one of its edges, and then covering it with a little raw dough that should be reserved for it. Then it is put to fry again only for the egg to cook as well as the new plug of dough. They are eaten hot with hot pepper or whey. It is a typical dish of the Colombian Caribbean coast. It is preferable that the dough is very soft, otherwise it will be difficult to inflate in the oil.
