Ingredients to make Easy Salted Caramel (Toffee Sauce):

  1. 50 grams of icing sugar
  2. 50 grams of brown sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons maple syrup or molasses
  4. 75 grams of unsalted butter
  5. 125 milliliters of milk or cream
  6. 1 pinch of flake salt or fine salt

How to make Easy Salted Caramel (Toffee Sauce):

  • We gather all the ingredients to prepare the easy salted caramel (toffee sauce).
  • We start by melting the butter in a deep pot or pan.

Tip: If you take the butter out of the fridge a few hours before it will have an ointment texture and it will take less time to melt.

  • When the butter is melted, add the brown sugarand icing sugar, and mix well with a wooden spoon. Let cook over low heat for 3 minutes, stirring constantly so it doesn’t stick.
  • Now we add the maple syrup or molasses and continue stirring to integrate.

Tip: If you don’t have maple syrup, you can add something similar like golden syrup or cane syrup or molasses.

  • Next, we add the heavy cream or cream to our salty toffee sauce, bring to a boil and let it boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. You will see how it takes a thick texture.
  • Finally, season with salt, stir well, let cook for 1 more minute and remove from heat. If you want you can try the salted caramel sauce (being careful not to burn yourself) to see if it is to your liking or if it needs a little more salt.

Trick: The ideal is to use sea salt flakes, but if you don’t have it, use fine salt and it will be just as tasty.

  • Store your easy salted caramel in any glass jar with a lid and you will have it available to season whatever you fancy. You can use this salty toffee sauce to accompany desserts such as chocolate and salted caramel cake or mascarpone cheese flan.
