Easy Milk Cake Recipe

FoodsDiary By FoodsDiary

In Portugal, this milk tart is typical of the Christmas season because it is reminiscent of the traditional pastel de nata from that same country. Preparing it at home is very simple and requires hardly any ingredients, so there are no excuses not to try it. If you are looking for an inexpensive and easy cake recipe, this recipe is what you need! Keep reading and discover from this article how to make a milk cake step by step, you’ll love it!

Ingredients to make Easy Milk Tart:

  1. 1 package of puff pastry or short crust pastry
  2. 500 milliliters of milk
  3. 4 egg yolks
  4. 6 tablespoons of Sugar
  5. 2 tablespoons of corn starch
  6. 1 pinch ground cinnamon (optional)
  7. 1 pinch of lemon zest (optional)

How to make Easy Milk Tart:

  • To prepare the easy milk cake, the first thing you should do is separate the yolks from the egg whites. For this dessert we will use only the yolks.

Tip: Preheat the oven to 180ºC.

  • Reserve the yolks and take a circular mold. Line the base with the puff pastry or short crust pastry and prick the bottom with a fork to prevent it from increasing in volume in the oven. When hot, bake the dough for 10 minutes.

Tip: Between the mold and the dough, place a sheet of baking paper, so you can better remove the cake when it is done.

  • While the milk tart dough is baking, place the yolks with the sugar in a pot or pan. In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in the milk.
  • Add the milk with the cornstarch to the pot or saucepan, and bring it to medium heat for approximately 10 minutes. Constantly stir the preparation to form the easy pie filling. When you see that the cream is thick enough, add the lemon zest and cinnamon. Mix to integrate these last ingredients and remove the filling from the heat.

Trick: Remember that lemon zest and cinnamon are optional.

  • Pour the milk filling over the baked dough and bake the tart again for 45 minutes, at 180ºC, or until the cream is golden.
  • Let the easy milk cake cool and unmold to serve. If you used the baking paper, you will see that the cake comes out quickly. This puff pastry tart is perfect to serve as a dessert without adding anything else, but if you prefer to give an extra touch to the recipe, you can always decorate it with the meringue that you made with the whites, melted chocolate or the jam that you like best.
