Cornstarch porridge with milk recipe

Mazamorra de maizena, maizena or corn starch, is a characteristic dessert of South American countries that is generally prepared for consumption by children. It is a kind of porridge that can be prepared in various flavors, with a soft texture and very pleasant for the palate, for this reason it is also very common to offer it to babies.

Ingredients to make cornstarch porridge with milk:

  • 500 milliliters of milk
  • 50 grams of corn starch or cornstarch
  • 50 grams of common sugar
  • 10 grams of cocoa powder

How to make cornstarch porridge with milk:

  1. We weigh and gather all the ingredients to prepare the cornstarch porridge faster.
  2. In case you want to make the dessert for celiacs, it is very important to check that the cocoa does not contain gluten.
  3. Pure cocoa is gluten free, however if it is not pure it may contain traces of gluten.
  4. Once all the ingredients are ready, we place the corn starch, sugar and cocoain a separate container.
  5. We mixthe previous ingredients carefully, since being such refined products they are quite volatile.
  6. Then, we pour the cold milk into a saucepan, add the dry ingredients and mix.
  7. When we have the ingredients incorporated and without lumps, we heat the mixture over low heat, stirring non-stop, to make the cornstarch mazamorra.
  8.  Let’s remember that, although we have chosen to make the dessert with a chocolate flavor, the truth is that you can omit the cocoa powder without any problem and even replace it with other ingredients.

  10. Once the mixture begins to boil and, at the same time, to thicken, leave it on the heat for one more minute and remove it.
  11. We serve the cornstarch with milk in individual glasses or in a large mold.
  12. It can be eaten both warm and cold, so we can also reserve it in the refrigerator until ready to consume it.
  13. And if what we want is to use the cornstarch porridge for babies, we can also freeze it in individual molds to remove them as we need them.
