Christmas Eggnog

Ingredients to make Christmas Eggnog:

  • 3 cups of whole milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 cup of sugar (200 grams)
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla essence
  • 1 pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 ounce rum, brandy, or cognac (optional)

How to make Christmas Eggnog:

  • To start the eggnog recipe, beat the egg yolks with the sugar, but adding the sugar little by little, not all at once. There should be a creamy texture with a light color.
  • In a pot, heat the 3 cups of milk and add the cinnamon stick. You just need it to heat up, so don’t let it boil.
  • Tip: Keep a low temperature.
  • When the milk is hot, introduce a tablespoon of milk into the container with the beaten egg and mix very well until it has a light texture. This step is important to temper the eggs and prevent them from curdling.
  • Once the egg and sugar mixture is warm, pour it into the pot with the remaining milk and mix to integrate everything. This way, you will cook the egg without curdling.
  • Add the tablespoon of vanilla extract and the pinch of nutmeg, stirring constantly and always preventing it from boiling. Let the eggnog cook for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Trick: you can also use vanilla pods, add other spices such as anise or ginger.
  • To tell if your eggnog is done, take a spoon, dip it in, and it should be a slightly thick layer; also if you pass your finger you will notice the division. At this point you can remove the preparation from the fire.
  • Tip: if you want to achieve a thicker texture, add a cup of whipping cream.
  • Strain the mixture to remove the pieces of the cinnamon stick and any lumps that may appear. You almost have your Christmas punch ready
  • Let cool completely or, if you want to speed up the process, place the bowl of punch in a bowl filled with ice and mix until chilled.
  • If you want to add an extra touch, when it is completely cold, add 1 ounce of alcohol, which can be rum, brandy or cognac, choose the one you like best. This step is optional, as you can also make your non-alcoholic eggnog for the kids to drink if they want.
  • Serve with ice to taste and enjoy your delicious Christmas eggnog. Accompany your Christmas dinner with this drink and share it with your family, they will surely like it.
  • Tip: when serving the eggnog, you can sprinkle ground cinnamon.
