Chocolate Fritters Recipe

On this occasion, we share a delicious recipe for chocolate fritters. During the Lenten season it is very common to find buñuelos, torrijas, pestiños and many other traditional Easter sweets in all bakeries and pastry shops. However, their cost can be high and, therefore, we encourage you to prepare them at home. Although the most traditional fritters are the Lenten and wind fritters, today we can find them with practically any flavor and filling. For example, we find orange and lemon fritters, filled with cream, cream, jam…, and the chocolate fritters that we show below. These fritters are a delicious bite of chocolate flavor; they are juicy and very tender. They are made just like any other fritter, only cocoa powder is added. It is a simple recipe, although a bit entertaining, but it is worth making it for its exquisite flavor.

Ingredients to make Chocolate Donuts:

  1. 180 grams of wheat flour
  2. 25 grams of cocoa powder
  3. 1 dessert spoon Royal type baking powder (baking powder)
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 100 milliliters of water
  6. 50 grams of sugar (¼ cup)
  7. 50 grams of butter
  8. 1 pinch of salt
  9. 1 glass of sunflower oil

How to make Chocolate Fritters:

  • To make the recipe for chocolate fritters, first put a saucepan on the fire with the milk, water, butter and 2 tablespoons of sugar (optional). If you prefer, you can do without the sugar, since you will later coat the chocolate fritters in sugar.
  • When the milk is hot and has mixed with the butter, add the flour previously mixed with the yeast and a pinch of salt. You should add it all at once and start mixing.
  • Tip: to make the dough for the fritters smoother, we recommend sifting the flour before hand.
  • Add the cocoa and integrate it until everything is mixed and it forms like a ball of dough.
  • The dough should separate easily from the sides of the pan. At this point, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Add an egg to the dough and mix it with a wooden spoon. You will notice that it costs a lot, but little by little you will be able to integrate it.
  • Add the other egg and do the same to integrate it well. Let the chocolate fritter dough rest for an hour to finish setting.
  • After the resting time, prepare a plate with kitchen paper and another with sugar to coat the fritters.
  • Put a frying pan with oil over medium heat and when it is hot, fry the chocolate fritters. To do this, with the help of two spoons you must take portions of dough, form some balls and add them to the pan. Flip the fritters over so they brown on all sides.
  • Tip: We recommend cooking the fritters in batches of 5-6.
  • When they are done, take them out and place them on the plate that you have prepared with the kitchen paper. In this way, excess oil is absorbed
  • Before they cool completely, pass the fritters through the sugar to coat them and place them in a serving dish. You can also sprinkle icing sugar on top.
  • And they will be ready to eat! These chocolate fritters are easy and delicious. It is true that the process is somewhat slow, but in itself it does not have much complication

Ideas for serving chocolate fritters

We have seen a simple way to decorate easy and homemade chocolate fritters, with normal or icing sugar. However, there are other ways to serve them, some more complicated than others:

  • You can fill your liquid chocolate fritters. To do this, we recommend preparing a simple chocolate panache or white chocolate panache, whichever you prefer! Let it warm up a bit and put it in a pastry bag. Then, you just have to make a small hole in each donut to place the nozzle of the pastry bag and fill it.
  • Another, easier option is to cover the fritters with melted chocolate and allow it to cool to harden.
  • Finally, we recommend trying to fill the homemade chocolate fritters with pastry cream, since the combination of flavors is spectacular. The process is the same as with chocolate, you just have to put the cream in a pastry bag.
