  • 500 grams of flour for tamales
  • 4 grams of baking powder
  • 125 grams of semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 100 grams of wheat flour
  • ½ cup of sugar (100 grams)
  • 1 package of dried corn husks

How to make Chocolate and Walnut Tamales:

  1. In the following image you can see the ingredients that we will use to prepare these delicious chocolate and walnut tamales. Don’t miss any detail.
  2. We are going to start by taking the dried corn husks, we are going to rinse them under running water to clean them and we are going to place them in a container with enough water so that they soak and soften, we leave them in water for approximately 40 minutes.
  3. We begin our preparation of the chocolate tamales by placing the butter in a deep bowl, where with the help of a mixer or a manual balloon, we begin to beat the butter until it is completely softened.
  4. Once the butter is soft, we add the flourfor the tamale and the baking powder, then we incorporate everything perfectly.
  5. Once these first ingredients are integrated, we add the melted chocolate and sugar to the mixture of sweet tamales, and again we incorporate everything into our mixture.
  6. Finally, we add the finely chopped walnut to thechocolate tamale dough mixture and then we integrate again.
  7. Trick: If our mixture is very watery, we add a little wheat flour to make its consistency firmer.
  8. Now we take a few of the corn husks that we left soaking a moment ago and drain them perfectly.
  9. We take one and distribute in it a little of the mixture of doughwith chocolate, fill with some chocolate chips and two whole walnuts, and finally we wrap the tamale and reserve until we finish with all our dough and form all the chocolate and walnut tamales.
  10. On the other hand, in the steamer, we place pieces of corn husks on the rackwhere we will place the tamales, this will help prevent the water from passing into our tamales, since if this happens they will become watery and not cook.
  11. Now we take all the tamales that we form and we are going to place them inside the steamer, we cover them perfectly well so that the steam does not come out and that’s it, we let them cook for approximately 1 hour and a half.
  12. We must be aware that in this period of time that the water at the bottom of our steamer does not run out, since if it evaporates completely the chocolate and walnut tamales will not cook.
  13. After this time our chocolate and nut tamaleswill be READY! To be enjoyed.
  14.  Accompany them with a rich biscuit atole and you will see how perfect they are. Enjoy your meal!
