Ingredients to make Chard Cream:

  • 1 bunch of Swiss chard
  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 leek
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 large potato
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 liter of water

How to make Chard Cream:

  1. To start preparing the chard cream we clean all the vegetables, peel the carrot, chop it and add it to the pot. We also cut the leek and add it. Since what we are going to do is cook all the vegetables, it is not necessary to cut them into small pieces, but it is important that they are all more or less the same. Trick: As a trick to make the Swiss chard cream faster, we recommend heating the water first and starting to add the vegetables to the pot with the already hot water.
  2. Now cut the onion and zucchini and add them to the pot. In addition, we peel the potato, chop it and introduce it. We are going to make the chard cream in an express pot, but it can also be made in a conventional pot following these same steps. When it’s time to close the pot, we explain how to proceed depending on the type of casserole.
  3. We add the water if we have not done it before. We remember that to speed up the process it is better to heat the water in advance. Likewise, we incorporate salt to taste
  4. We clean the chard well, add them to the pot and close it. If we use an express pot and have heated the water in advance, 10 minutes will be more than enough. Now, if we have added cold water, we will have to let the vegetables cook for 20 minutes over medium heat. On the other hand, in case of using a conventional pot, the cooking time is longer, around 30 minutes if we have not heated the water before.
  5. When the vegetables are cooked, strain them and reserve the broth obtained, since to make the chard purée it is not necessary to use all of it. In this way, we will also have a delicious homemade vegetable broth that is ideal for other recipes, such as rice with vegetables.
  6. We crush the vegetables adding broth depending on whether we like the cream more or less thick. We have opted for a light chard cream, but if you don’t mind adding a few calories you can now add a couple of cheeses, especially if the dish will be eaten by children, since they provide an extra flavor that they love. Thus, there are those who add a little milk cream also in this step. Tip: If what you want is to enjoy chard soup, you can always leave the vegetables uncrushed and serve the dish with broth to taste.
  7. Clever! Now we only have to heat the dish to enjoy it very hot and accompany it with what we like the most. A good option is to cook chickpeas and add them to the puree, the combination is exquisite and very healthy.
