Black Forest Cake Recipe

The black forest cake is a very recognized and popular dessert all over the world, although its origin is in Europe. This cake is made up of a dark chocolate sponge filled with whipped cream and cherries, ideal for lovers of intense flavors and contrasting textures.

Ingredients to make Black Forest Cake:

  • 220 grams of wheat flour
  • 250 grams of Sugar (1¼ cups)
  • 150 grams of Margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of bitter cocoa
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1½ teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 200 milliliters of milk
  • 1 teaspoon of chocolate essence
  • For the filling
  • 400 grams of milk cream
  • 200 grams of Cherries
  • 2 tablespoons of icing sugar
  • To decorate
  • Chocolate chips

How to make Black Forest Cake:

  1. In order to start preparing the black forest cake, the butter or margarine must be at room temperature.
  2. Then, it is introduced into a bowl and beaten with the sugar until a smooth and homogeneous cream is obtained.
  3. Then, the eggs are incorporated one by one, mixing each time one is added to integrate it into the mixture.
  4. Then, sift the flour with the baking powder, salt and cocoa.
  5. When the dry ingredients are sieved, they are incorporated into the butter and sugar mixture, alternating with the milk.
  6. Mix everything well until you get a smooth and homogeneous chocolate cake mass.
  7. The oven is preheated to 200ºC.
  8. A mold is greased and floured, the previous mixture is poured and the chocolate sponge cake is bakedfor 20 minutes, or until it is ready.
  9. While the cake is baking, prepare the black forest filling by beating the milk cream until it takes consistency. While beating, add a spoonful of icing sugar.
  10. Besides, prepare a homemade jam with the cherries and the other tablespoon of sugar, removing the stems and bones of the fruit. In this way, two different fillings are obtained.
  11. When the chocolate sponge cake is ready, it is removed from the oven and allowed to cool.
  12. Once cold, it is cut into three layers to be able to fill it and form the black forest.
  13. We place the base on a plate, cover the surface of that base with a little whipped cream and, on top of it, we put another layer of sponge cake.
  14. Spread the surface of this second layer of cake with the cherry jam, place the third layer of the cake and cover the top with the rest of the whipped cream.
  15. Finally, we sprinkle the chocolate shavings or grated dark chocolate all over the cake.
