Beignet Recipe

Ingredients to make Beignets:

  • 6 grams of fresh yeast
  • 230 milliliters of milk
  • 2 units of Eggs
  • 55 grams of Butter
  • 380 grams of flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • oil for frying
  • icing sugar

How to make Beignets:

  1. The first step in making these typical French pancakes is to heat the milk, without letting it boil, and add the fresh yeast. Stir well so that the yeast is completely dissolved
  2. Pour this milk into a deep bowl and add the eggsalong with the slightly melted butter. Mix until the ingredients are integrated.
  3. Add a little salt and sifted flour to the preparation. Knead all the ingredients until you get homogeneous and quite sticky dough
  4. Now we have to work the dough. To do this, sprinkle a little flour on a flat surface and continue to knead and add flour until you get smooth, elastic and non-sticky dough. This process will take about 10 minutes.
  5. Shape the dough into a ball and let it rest. To do this, place it in a bowl with a little oil in the bottom and cover with a cloth. Leave like this for an hour or until the French beignet batter doubles in size.
  6. When it has doubled in size, we recover the dough and hit it repeatedly against the work surface. Then we cover it again with a cloth and let it rest for about 15 minutes. This process removes air from the dough.
  7. After this time, stretch the dough onto the same floured surface and extend until it is approximately half a centimeter thick. Then, cut square shapes of dough to form the beignets, you can help with a pizza cutter.
  8. To make them beignets, heat a pan with plenty of oil and once it is very hot, add and fry the pieces of dough until they are completely golden.
  9. Finally, remove the excess oil with absorbent paper and sprinkle with icing sugar. Enjoy the famous beignets  as a family during snack time and accompany it with a delicious chocolate milkshake.
