Beef and Cheese Burritos Recipe

If you like Mexican food, you have undoubtedly heard of Mexican burritos, a great option for a casual or themed lunch or dinner that almost everyone likes. But if not, don’t worry because we are going to explain how to prepare meat and cheese burritos step by step with photos so that you don’t have any doubts.

The burrito is a traditional dish of Mexican cuisine that consists of a tortilla filled and wrapped in the shape of a cigar. The fillings for burritos vary quite a bit: they can be made with minced meat, chicken, beans, vegetables, avocado or cheese, among many other options.

In this case, we are going to prepare some easy and very tasty ground beef and cheese burritos, ideal to share with family or friends or to vary your daily menus. Take a look at the step by step of these minced meat and cheese burritos, try them and you will see how you will want to repeat for sure.

Ingredients to make Beef and Cheese Burritos:

• 4 wheat tortillas

• 300 grams of ground beef

• 1 chopped onion

• 1 small carrot, chopped

• 3 chopped mushrooms

• 100 grams of grated cheese

• 1 bay leaf

• 2 tablespoons of olive oil

• 1 dessert spoon of oregano

• 1 dessert spoon of hot sauce (optional)

• ⅓ cup tomato sauce

• 1 pinch of black pepper

• 1 pinch of salt

How to make Beef and Cheese Burritos:

Heat a pot or pan with the oil and, when hot, add the chopped onion and bay leaf. Sauté until the onion begins to brown.

Tip: The bay leaf will give an extra touch of good flavor and smell to the minced meat and cheese burritos.

Add the chopped carrot, mix well and cook for 1-2 minutes. Also then add the mushrooms, stir everything and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

Tip: This is a suggestion of the soffit for ground beef and cheese burritos but you can use other vegetables such as bell pepper, celery, leek, olives, etc.

When the vegetables are well browned, add the minced meat, mix well and stir so that it crumbles into small pieces. When the meat is very loose as in the photo, season with salt and pepper and let it cook until it is golden as well. Finally, add the hot sauce (optional) and the tomato sauce, mix everything well and cook the filling of the beef and cheese burritos for another 5 minutes, until the sauce is reduced. Tip: Hot sauce is an optional ingredient, however, I advise using it because Mexican food is typically spicy.

Next, heat the Mexican wheat tortillas in a skillet until slightly crisp and golden on both sides.

Tip: It is not necessary to grease the pan with any fat, since the objective is only to heat the tortillas to brown them. Do not heat them too much because otherwise they will break.

It’s time for assembly. If you don’t know how to prepare Mexican beef and cheese burritos, follow these steps:

1. In the center of the tortilla place a portion of the ground beef sob Frito and sprinkle grated cheese to taste.

2. Fold the sides of the tortilla in toward the center (you don’t need to completely cover the filling).

3. Fold one of the ends of the tortilla towards the center as well.

4. Refold the front end, rolling the stuffing inside it.

Trick: I used grated mozzarella cheese, but you can use cheddar cheese, Gouda cheese, white Latin cheese, etc…

Once you have assembled them all, serve the freshly made meat and grated cheese burritos so that they are very hot, and accompany them with a good ice cold beer or Mexican michelada for example.
