Basic sponge cake recipe

Ingredients to make basic sponge cake:

  1. 350 grams of leavening flour
  2. 250 milliliters of Milk
  3. 1 cup of Sugar (200 grams)
  4. 3 eggs
  5. 70 grams of butter or margarine
  6. 1 pinch of salt
  7. 1 tablespoon of Bicarbonate
  8. 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 1 orange or lemon zest

How to make basic sponge cake:

  • The first thing to do to prepare this basic sponge cake is to have all the tools and ingredients at hand and turn on the oven at a medium temperature (about 180º C).
  • Add the following ingredients in a bowl in this order: the eggs, the butter, the sugar, the orange zest, the pinch of salt, the tablespoon of baking soda and the essence of vanilla. And mix all the previous dough for the fluffy basic biscuit well with a fork or an electric mixer for about 2 minutes.
  • Then add the milk and continue beating for 3 more minutes.
  • Once everything is well mixed and without lumps, we add the 350 g of flour or a little more until we have a paste and we beat the dough for the homemade sponge cake for another 10 minutes.
  • Once the dough for the basic sponge cake is obtained, spread a little butter and flour in the dish or mold that we want and add the dough, and leave it in the oven for about 35 or 45 minutes.
  • Once done, take the basic sponge cake out of the oven and let it cool for about 20 minutes to be able to unmold it.
