Ingredients to make Pan Bao:

  1. 300 grams of common wheat flour
  2. 1 sachet of dry baker’s yeast
  3. 25 grams of sugar
  4. 120 milliliters of lukewarm water
  5. 20 milliliters of vegetable oil
  6. 1 sheet of baking paper
  7. 1 teaspoon salt
  8. 1 steamer pot with holes or traditional bamboo

How to make Breadboard:

  • Mix the flour and dry yeast in a bowl, stir very well. Add the oil, salt, sugar and water. Continue stirring so that each ingredient is diluted and the dough for this Asian bread is formed.
  • When you see that the dough is detached from the bowl, take it out to the kitchen bench and knead for about 10 minutes. There should be a manageable mass that does not stick to the surface. If you see that it still sticks, sprinkle very little flour and work the dough again.
  • When it is ready, put the dough in a large bowl and cover it with plastic wrap for 1 hour in a warm place without drafts. Meanwhile, prepare some strips of parchment paper for the base of each bread bao.
  • Take the dough out of the bao bread to knead it again for 10 minutes and remove the air. After kneading, form a cylinder with the dough and prepare the little pieces of paper for each piece that you are going to prepare
  • Cut 4 pieces of the dough cylinder. Shape each one into a ball and stretch them with a rolling pin so that they are oval and one centimeter thick.
  • Help yourself with your fingers at the ends of the dough to make it as smooth as possible. Place each piece on the pieces of paper that you have prepared. This will help prevent the dough from sticking to the surface and deforming.
  • Spread a kitchen towel over the bao bread pieces and let them rest on a tray for 45 minutes. Each piece of bao bread is usually about 25 centimeters long. Meanwhile, prepare a pot with 3 fingers of water to boil.
  • Once the rest time has elapsed, pass a brush smeared with vegetable oil over the surface of the bread. Use the baking paper to fold the dough in half and, when the water boils, assemble the steamer and insert the bao breads. Leave them separated from each other, put the lid on and let cook for 10 minutes.
  • After this time, turn off and leave the lid of the pot half on, without removing it completely, so that the bread does not lower its volume. Let sit for 10 minutes and remove the bao rolls. You can enjoy them and make bread bao stuffed with whatever you want.
