Baked salmon recipe with spices

This recipe could also be called Tikka Salmon or Tandoori Salmon but those names are less well known. And it is that this salmon dish is a famous recipe of Indian cuisine and it is about pieces of salmon marinated in a mixture of spices with yogurt called tandoori. Although the original way of cooking this salmon is in a clay oven called a tandoor, we will cook it in the oven in an easier way.

Ingredients to make Baked Salmon with Spices:

  • 250 grams of salmon loin
  • 1 bottle of natural yogurt without sugar (125 ml.)
  • 4 tablespoons of Tandoori
  • 2 tablespoons of hot paprika
  • 2 tablespoons of minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch of Chat Masala or Black Salt (optional)

How to make Baked Salmon with Spices:

  1. The first step in preparing this Indian recipe will be to chop the salmon. Cut the pieces of fish into more or less large cubes, trying to remove all the bones it may have. This type of cut is what is called tike in India.
  2. Now it’s the turn of the marinade. To do this, mix the yogurt with the spices, add everything except the black salt, since we will use it at the end. You can use Greek yogurt if you wish and if you prefer the dish not to have anything spicy, substitute the hot paprika for normal paprika.
  3. Mix everything very well, so that the ingredients are distributed evenly. The result should be a dark pink cream. Taste and correct the seasoning if necessary, avoid adding too much salt.
  4. Take the salmon pieces to a plastic container with the yogurt sauce, mix everything thoroughly; making sure that the salmon is completely covered with the sauce. Since we are making marinated salmon, the ideal is to let the fish take on its flavor by leaving it to rest overnight, but if you don’t have time, leave it for at least an hour.
  5. The next day, when the salmon has absorbed all the flavors of the spices and yogurt, we will cook the fish. To do this, place the cubes of salmon dipped in tandoori sauce on a tray lined with baking paper. Place the fish pieces skin side down.
  6. To finish, preheat the oven to 180º and cook the tandoori salmon for about 15 minutes until you see the pieces begin to brown. Let rest for a few minutes and sprinkle a pinch of black salt on top.
  7. Serve this Indian delicacy with some roasted aborigines also typical of the region and enjoy an original and different dish: Indian-style oven-baked marinated salmon.
