Almond Horchata

Ingredients to make Almond Horchata:

  1. 200 grams of raw almonds
  2. 1 liter of water
  3. 100 grams of sugar (½ cup)
  4. 1 cinnamon stick
  5. 1 piece of lemon peel

How to make Almond Horchata:

  • To start with the almond horchata recipe, first wash the almonds under the tap with cold water, put them in a bowl covered with water and leave them to soak for 4 hours. In this way, they will soften and we will be able to take advantage of all the flavor of the almond when we go to crush them.
  • After the rest time, throw away the water, put the almonds in a robot, blender or blender, and add the 100 g of sugar and 500 ml of water. Crush everything very well to obtain your almond horchata.
  • If there is a very hard mixture and it is difficult to grind it, add a little more water.
  • Pour the entire mixture into a large jug and add a lemon rind, or more if you want the flavor to be more noticeable, and a cinnamon stick. Stir and let rest in the fridge for another 2-4 hours so that the homemade almond horchata finishes integrating all the flavors.
  • Take the horchata out of the fridge, remove the cinnamon and the lemon peel. Once this is done, strain the drink using a strainer, a sieve or cheesecloth, which you should place on a bowl. Drain the preparation well to get as much juice as possible.
  • Once you have removed all the almond horchata, taste it and add more sugar if you like it sweeter.
  • Reserve the drink in the fridge until serving time, as it has to be very cold. And the almond horchata recipe is ready! You can serve it with a little ground cinnamon on top. It is delicious and the best of all is that it is completely homemade, so you can adjust the measurements of each ingredient to your liking.
