In this recipe we are going to make a typical Chilean appetizer, chapaleles, which is a dough based on potatoes or cooked potatoes and wheat flour. They can be made by cooking them in water, fried or baked. We are going to see the step by step of the recipe that in detail to cook Chilean chapaleles, you will love them!
Ingredients to make Chapaleles:
- 1 kilogram of mashed potatoes
- 250 grams of wheat flour
- 3 tablespoons of Butter
- 1 pinch of salt
- 1 pinch of black pepper
- 1 pinch of garlic paste
How to make Chapaleles:
1 The first step to make our Chilean recipe is to pre-list the ingredients.
2 You must peel the potatoes and cut them into squares of the same size so that when cooking them they are done evenly. Transfer the potatoes to a deep pot with enough water to cover them and cook them until they are soft to mash.
3 Once the potatoes are soft, put them in a bowl.
4 Add the butter while the potatoes are hot, in this way the ingredients will integrate very well.
5 Add salt, pepper and a little garlic paste if you want to give a different touch to our recipe.
6 Once cold, mix the mashed potatoes with the wheat flour to form a dough as shown in the photograph.
7 Form small or medium sized balls as desired.
8 Take a pan with enough oil to fry. Crush each of the chapaleles and, once the oil is hot, add them to the pan and fry on each side until golden brown. Remember that you can use other cooking methods, cook them in water or in the oven.
9 Remove the chapaleles to a plate with absorbent paper to remove excess fat and they will be ready to eat.
10 Serve the chapaleles hot, these can be consumed as an accompaniment to any dish, such as the Chilean tomaticán, or as appetizers
