Ingredients to make black honey cake (cane honey or anchovy cake) from Paraguay:
- 3 cups of wheat flour 000
- 90 grams of lard or butter
- 2 cups of black honey (cane honey)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 teaspoons of baking soda
- 2 cups of cold milk
- ½ cup of white sugar
How to make Black honey cake (miel de cane or torta anchovy) from Paraguay:
- Beat the lard or butter with the sugar until creamy.
- Next, mix the baking soda, the orange zest with the sifted flour, and add everything together with the previously beaten butter and sugar.
- Little by little add the milk andcane syrup. When all the ingredients of the cane honey cake are well mixed, beat for about 5 minutes.
- Then flour a mold and pour the Paraguayan cake dough. Take the honey cake to a moderate oven (150-180 ºC) for approximately 20 minutes, or until you see that it is well cooked.
- Tip: The cooking time will depend on your oven.
- Once baked, take the Paraguayan anchovy torta out of the oven and let it cool on a wire rack if possible.
