Ingredients to make Torrijas with honey in the oven:
- ½ loaf of stale bread from the day before
- 500 milliliters of milk
- 1 cinnamon stick
- ½ lemon or orange (skin)
- 5 tablespoons of sugar (optional)
- 4 eggs
- 4 tablespoons honey (or more)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of water
How to make Torrijas with honey in the oven:
- Add the milk a long with the cinnamon stick, sugar (optional) and lemon or orange peel to a pot and bring to a boil. As soon as it starts to boil, take it off the heat and let it cool down. You can omit the sugar because the honey French toast is already very sweet
- Separately, mix the honey with the water and heat them over low heat. Booking.
- Preheat the oven to 200ºC
- Strain the infused milk into a wide plate when it is lukewarm and soak the slices of stale bread. Leave them for a few minutes until the homemade French toast is well soaked.
- Beat the eggs, coat the French toast and see, placing them on a baking tray previously lined with parchment or parchment paper.
- Put the French toast in the oven in the middle part and lower the temperature to 180 ºC. Bake them for about 15 minutes on one side and then flip them over to finish browning on the other (another 5-10 minutes).
- Trick: The baking time of the French toast with honey depends on your oven.
- When they are golden brown, remove the Torrijas from the oven and drizzle them with the reserved honey and water mixture, soaking them well.
- Trick: You can pour honey directly without diluting it in water but this way they won’t be so pasty.
- Let the baked French toast cool with honey and sprinkle a little cinnamon powder on top to your liking. Delicious!
