Falafel is a traditional dish of oriental cuisine that consists of croquettes or meatballs made from chickpeas. But this red bean falafel recipe that I have shared with is a version of the traditional falafel because I have replaced the main ingredient with red beans, in such a way that there are some very rich bean croquettes or meatballs with a soft texture, perfect to serve as starter or main course. You can serve them with yogurt sauce or with tahini on pita bread or with a mixed salad, for example.
Ingredients to make Red Bean Falafel:
- 1 cup of soaked red beans
- 1 onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- ½ lemon
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon of breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- ¼ bunch of cilantro (optional)
How to make Red Bean Falafel:
1.Soak the red beans overnight before preparation. Drain them and reserve.
2.Chop the onion and garlic.
3.Put the beans, garlic, onion and cilantro in the blender and blend well until a smooth paste remains.
4.Add the juice of half a lemon, the cumin, the salt, the oil and the breadcrumbs to the blender. Blend for several seconds to mix the ingredients of the red bean falafel.
5.Take small portions of the bean dumplings dough, roll them into balls and flatten them with your hands.
6.Heat oil in a pan and fry the red bean falafel until golden brown on both sides.
