Patacon recipe with shredded meat

The patacones are a traditional dish of the countries with Caribbean coasts and are nothing more than pieces of green plantain, flattened and fried. In Colombia, they are usually eaten both for breakfast and for meals depending on the accompaniments with which they are served. With this recipe you will learn how to prepare not only delicious patacones but also Colombian shredded meat.

Ingredients to make Patacon with shredded meat:

  • 500 grams of Over belly
  • 250 grams of long onion
  • 8 units of fried green plantain or patacones
  • 1 unit of white onion
  • 4 units of red tomatoes
  • 1 pinch of garlic paste
  • 1 pinch of oregano
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of Pepper
  • 1 cup of blonde beer

How to make Patacon with shredded meat:

  1. The first step to make our Colombian recipe is to prepare the ingredients for the patacones
  2. Cut the long onion very finely to be able to make a stew or stir-fry, better known by the famous name of Colombian Hogan.
  3. Bring a pressure cooker to medium heat and add a tablespoon of sunflower oil. Add the finely chopped long white onion and let it fry.
  4. Add a little salt, pepper, garlic paste and a pinch of cumin powder to give our Hogan creole flavor. Once you see that the onion takes on a transparent color, add the tomato cut into small squares and let it fry.
  5. Add the previously seasoned over belly.
  6. Add a little dried oregano on top of the meat.
  7. This same shredded meat is the same one that we are going to use for our lentils with shredded meat recipe.
  8. Add two cups of water to cover our cut of meat and the cup of blonde beer.
  9. What we want with beer is that the meat is soft and with an exquisite flavor.
  10.  This will be the shredded meat of our Colombian patacones.
  11. Then, cover the pressure cooker and cook for about 45 minutes or until you notice that the meat can be easily shredded and is tender.
  12. Once you see the meat is cooked, remove it to a bowl and let it cool a bit so you can easily shred it by hand
  13. Add a bit of the shredded meat to the patacones that we have previously fried.
  14. Serve our shredded meat patacones with some Colombian Hogan on top and surprise everyone at a gathering at home or present them as an appetizer.
