How to make Nopales stewed with onion:
- In the following image you can see the ingredients that we will need to prepare these delicious nopales stewed with onion.
- Let’s start by cooking the nopales.
- For this, we must first finely chop them into small rectangles, place them in a saucepan with boiling water and let them cook together with the garlic, a small piece of onion, a pinch of salt and the tablespoon of baking soda.
- The bicarbonate helps the nopales not remain acidic.
- We let them cook for approximately 10 minutes over high heat and when we notice that they change color and feel soft to the touch, we remove from the heat and drain the water. Reserve.
- Meanwhile we take the onion and begin to slice it into thin slices, like the ones seen in the following image, we do this until we finish with the complete onion.
- As in other dishes with onions, such as the recipe for liver with onions, it is much better to cut the onion into rings or very thin julienne strips.
- Once the onion is ready, we put it to fry in a pan with the tablespoon of previously heated oil, add a pinch of salt, a pinch of pepper and let it fry until it looks transparent.
- Then, we take the already cooked nopales and add them to the frying pan together with the onion.
- We add a pinch of salt and pepper again, we move to integrate everything very well and we let the whole fry for 2 minutes over medium heat.
- After two minutes we add the Serrano Chile, this must be cut into small thin slices.
- We add it so that it is fried together with the onion and the nopal, we move to integrate everything very well and we let them fry together for 2 more minutes.
- After this time, our delicious dish is READY! Serve a good plate of stewed nopales with hot onion and accompany with some corn tortillas!
